Where We Meet
What We Do
Meetings take place at the historic Ralph Connor House at 54 Westgate, home of Manitoba writer Ralph Connor and referred to as “the house that books built.” . This heritage treasure was saved in 1939 and ultimately purchased by the University Women's Club which continues its preservation today. It is now a nationally designated historic site.
How Do I Get There?
The mansion is located on historic West Gate street. This link to Google Maps will show you how to get to the West Gate.
Parking can be a bit of a challenge. Although there is a circular drive leading up to the entrance parking is primarily on the street.
Entrance to the house is through the portico side door.
Each year we choose a theme for study. In past years we have read the authors of Jane Austen’s period; we have studied various social, historic and cultural aspects of her life and times; we have viewed films; we have discussed biographies and relevant current literature; we have given public presentations. Our present theme, one to which we return periodically, is the study of her works. We began with the minor works and the letters and for the next year will examine her novels. Next year we hope to have a special celebration for the bi –centenary of the publication of Mansfield Park.
