Christmas 2016

We celebrate Christmas every year with a special "Jane" related theme but every second year we go all out with a turkey dinner including all the fixings.

As you can imagine the beautiful setting in which we hold our meetings gives the event a real 19th century flavour as you will see by the photos accompanying this summary.

The evening's agenda started with cocktails from 5:30 to 6:00 at which time we adjourned to the dining room.  The usual traditions were observed with a prayer reading to start the meal and a toast to Jane before we enjoyed the entrée.

Dessert and coffee was served in the sitting room and members had a special treat with a readings of Mr. Darcy's Night Before Christmas and excerpts from reminiscences of the early 19th century written by the last Austen relative who had actually known  Jane.

It was an amazing and interesting evening with thanks going to our co-convenors Celine and Lorna.  They never let us down.
